About Spencer
Spencer Gehring is the founder and principal of xcova and provides consulting services and leadership development training to senior executives across the globe. Spencer’s international1, multi-industry2, and cross-functional3 experience has uniquely enabled him to distill business leadership to its essence, that which is left after the specifics of geography, industry and function are removed.
Spencer began developing his unique model of business leadership while working in Jack Welch’s GE where he generated his first million dollars in annual operating improvements in his first two years. During his third year the team he was on launched Six Sigma across GE and put the “D” in DMAIC. And by the end of his fourth year his ideas and ability to communicate and execute them had generated over $100 million in increased profits every year.
After 12 years and multiple leadership positions of ever increasing scope at GE Spencer was recruited by one of the country’s first and largest private equity turn around firms, Cerberus Capital Management. He led their process reengineering efforts at key portfolio companies as well as their Six Sigma Development Group of operating executives. After leaving Cerberus he co-founded The Excelar Group, a consulting firm that provided similar services.
Most recently, Spencer ran Operations and Technology for one of the nation’s largest mortgage originators and servicers, which serviced over one million mortgages and processed and underwrote over 100 billion dollars-worth in new mortgages every year. There he served as SVP of Operational Excellence reporting to the President of PHH Mortgage before becoming Interim Chief Operating Officer and finally SVP of Operations Shared Services and Technology reporting to the CEO.
